"I didn't say goodbye. It wasn't a choice."
Furious 7 sets the future up for the characters of Brian and Mia as they retire together to focus on their son at the film's end. Brewster states that it "makes sense" she doesn't make an appearance in the new film.
“It’s strange because Paul’s not in it. And Mia is with Brian. It makes sense to me that I’m not there,” she says in a new interview with Yahoo Celebrity.
It is noteworthy that the ninth and tenth installments in the franchise are already in plans, so a return of Brewster is possible.
“I didn’t say goodbye. It wasn’t a choice,” the 36-year-old star told Fox News regarding not being part of “Fast & Furious 8,” which will be released on Friday.
She explained that Mia's absence "came about organically" after Paul Walker's death in 2013.
"It doesn’t mean that the door is closed forever," she said. "You never know what could happen in terms of me coming back… but it’s definitely bittersweet. He was such a huge part of my life, so it didn’t feel the same to not have him with us again. But the fans are the best in the world. So I haven’t said goodbye. Not yet.”
“I think the franchise really taught me that you just don’t know what to expect in life,” she said. “When we started this story, we had no idea how successful it was really going to be… It truly became a family. When we lost Paul, we really did lose someone that meant so much to us who had a huge impact on our family. It just taught me not to take anything for granted in life.”
In spite of her absence in she's not in the recent installment in the film series, The Fate of the Furious, Brewster is very occupied. She lately appeared in New York City to promote her partnership with Zyrtec. Also, this past February, a second season for her show “Lethal Weapon” was announced.
